Host Utilities

The following host utilities are provided to administer the Reality environment:

chkdev * Used to check that the mapping information in the devices file is valid.

dbsave * Saves and restores Reality databases in parallel using multiple tape devices.

Install_KeyInstalls Reality software keys.

installkeys UNIX only. Installs a Reality serial number and software keys.

Install_rt UNIX only. Installs the remote tape server.

Install_SN Installs a Reality serial number.

killreal * On UNIX, terminates the Reality central and database daemons. On Windows, terminates a specified database server.

lockdbase * Prevents users other than the database owner logging on to the specified database.

mkdbase * Builds a Reality database.

perrorReturns the description associated with a specified error number.

realbindAssociates a database with an instance of Reality.

realcloneCreates, deletes and updates isolated instances of Reality.

realdbck * Checks the consistency of a partition database and attempts to fix errors found.

realdump * Creates a physical backup of a database.

realevent * Configures system alerts (events).

reality * Starts up a Reality user environment.

realload * Restores a physical backup of a database.

realresize * Resizes a Reality file.

realrootSelects a specified Reality release or instance, by setting the necessary environment variables.

realstart * UNIX only. Sets up the Reality environment and start up the central daemon.

realusers * UNIX only. Administers UNIX/Reality password integration.

RealrtsWindows only. Starts and stops the remote tape server.

realserv * Windows only. Starts and stops Reality services.

rmdbase * Removes a Reality database from the system.

show_keyDisplays the current Reality serial number, customer id and installed software keys.

sizemon * Scans the whole or part of a database and reports any badly sized files.

tlmenu * Administers Reality resilience facilities.

unlockdbase * Re-enables connections to a locked database.

On UNIX, you can also view descriptions of these commands on-line using the man command.

Note

If you are using Database Isolation, the commands marked * operate on the currently selected instance of Reality.
