Windows Network Administration Utility

Introduction

The Windows Network Administration Utility, netadmin, allows you to add, edit, delete, and list Reality routing entries in the Registry on a Windows system.

To run the utility, enter netadmin at the Windows command prompt.

Note

Only users with 'Administrator' privilege are allowed to execute netadmin.

The following main menu is displayed:

1. Destination Hosts
To add, edit, delete and list Destination Host entries. A Destination host entry allows you to connect to to a particular remote system.

2. Alternative Host Lists
To add, edit, delete, and list Alternative Host List entries. An Alternative host entry contains a list of equivalent destination systems, in the order in which connection is to be attempted.

3. Listening Ports
To add, edit, delete, and list Listening entries. A Listening entry defines a route to the local system, allowing smanager to accept incoming calls.

4. Remote Databases
To add, edit, delete, and list Remote Database entries. A Remote Database entry allows you to connect to a Reality database on a remote host.

5. Local Databases
To edit, delete, and list Local Database entries. These are created by the mkdbase host utility and allow databases to accept incoming connection from both remote and other local databases.

6. Session Manager Options
To change Reality session manager (smanager) options in the Windows Registry. For details, refer to Session Manager Options.

7. Refresh Session Manager
To request smanager to restart its listening ports. This can be used after changing your listening entries if you do not want to exit netadmin.

8. DefaultsTo display and change the default database, realman directory and the default version of Reality. For details, refer to Setting up Defaults.

9. DiagnosticsTo display a submenu showing diagnostic options including: Trace Enable, Trace File, All Trace Levels, Trace Flags, Trace Levels.

Note

When you quit from the main netadmin menu, if you have added, changed or deleted any listening entries, the following message prompt is displayed:

Listeners have changed, shall I refresh smanager [y / (n)] :

New or changed listening entries cannot be used until the session manager has been refreshed or restarted. Enter y to refresh smanager, or n to exit without refreshing.

Prompts - Conventions Used

netadmin generates a sequence of prompt messages using the following conventions.

Colon (:) Specifies the position at which the user response is entered, except when the prompt message wraps round. See chevrons (>>) below.

Square brackets [ ]
Enclose parameters which can be entered at the colon prompt.

Oblique stroke (/)
Separates the parameters or options which can be entered at the colon or chevron prompt.

Round brackets ( )
Enclose the default value; selected if only RETURN is entered at the colon prompt.

Chevrons (>>) Specify the position at which the user response is entered, when the user's response is potentially long.

q Exits the current level (menu or prompt) and returns to the previous level.

y Specifies a yes reply to a question prompt.

n Specifies a no reply to a question prompt.
