Windows onlyDestination Hosts
A Destination Host entry enables a network connection to a remote host system using a defined host name. This host name is then used from within Reality to set up a connection to the host for remote logon, remote file access, network logon or interprocess communication. It is also used to set up a connection to a network printer.
A Destination Host entry contains the following information:
Host name The name of the entry; that is, the name by which the destination system is known to your local system. It will normally be the same as the network name of the destination system, but could be a local alias. You might, for instance, create multiple entries for the same destination system, with each using a different protocol, by giving each entry a different system name.
Address The network name or IP address of the destination system.
-
A network name must be resolvable by means of a Domain Name Server, or similar.
-
An IP address must be in the format n0.n1.n2.n3, where n0, n1, n2 and n3 are decimal numbers in the range 0-255.
Protocol Telnet or DDA
. If
you do not specify a protocol, the
default session manager protocol is used (see
Options).
Port The number of the TCP port on the remote system to which connection will be made: normally 23 for Telnet or 1203 for DDA. If no value is given, the default smanager port is used (see Options). Normally port 9100 is used for network printers.
Note
Two additional fields,
Transport and Interface, currently have the fixed values TCP
and
SOCKETS
respectively.
