Configuring a FailSafe Pair

This topic describes the procedure carried out by selecting option 1 on tlmenu's Configuration and Setup menu to define or redefine a FailSafe configuration.

Other procedures on the Configuration and Setup menu for setting up Transaction Logging (options 2, 3 and 4) are described in Configuring Transaction Logging.

Overview

Configuration of FailSafe is carried out from the tlmenu Configuration and Setup menu, displayed by selecting option 2 on the main administration menu. Refer to tlmenu for an overview.

Option 1 is described in the topic Defining/Redefining a FailSafe Database. Options 2, 3 and 4 for configuring logging in a FailSafe configuration are described in Configuring Transaction Logging.

Each procedure, started by selecting a sub-menu option, comprises a sequence of message prompts to guide you through the process. Refer to Replies to Prompts for a description of the required responses.

FailSafe Configuration and Setup Menu

Option 1 must be run on both databases to configure FailSafe operation. The following are defined for each database:

Having defined the FailSafe database configuration using option 1, you must then start logging on the primary database by selecting option 2 on the Configuration and Setup menu, see Starting Transaction Logging.

Note

If you are using Database Isolation, both databases must either use the base Reality instance or the same instance number.
