Configuring the Transaction Logging Status Monitor

The Transaction Logging Status Monitor enables the status of Transaction Logging, Shadow Database or FailSafe to be monitored and the status displayed at any number of specified terminal ports on a database. Status messages are displayed on line 25 at the bottom of each receiving terminal's display screen. The following procedure is used to define the ports that are to receive the status messages, and optionally to start the Status Monitor. The Routine Maintenance menu option 5 may also be used to start the Status Monitor; see Starting the Transaction Logging Status Monitor.

Note

Transaction Logging must be active before you can perform this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Select option 4 on the Configuration and Setup menu. A message is displayed describing the purpose of the procedure; enter y  to continue.
  2. You then are asked to specify the ports that are to receive status messages:

    Send status messages to :
    1. All logged on ports
    2. One specific port
    3. A range of ports
    4. All ports logged on to a specific userid
    5. All ports logged on to a specific account
    Enter option (1-5) :

Enter a number in the range 1 to 5 to select the required port configuration to receive status messages.

    • Option 1 automatically configures the Transaction Logging Status Monitor to send messages to all ports.
    • Options 2 to 5 prompt you to specify a port number, range of port numbers, user-id and account name, respectively, before performing the configuration.

    Note

Port numbers, user-ids and account names and PLIds are not verified by the Transaction Logging Status Monitor, so you must ensure that they are valid before entering them.

  3. Having made your selection you are then asked:

Do you want to start the Transaction Logging Status Monitor (y/n/q)? :

Enter y  to start the Status Monitor or n  to configure the Status monitor without starting it. You are then returned to the Configuration and Setup menu.
