Options

C Sets up the VFU channels on a Printronix printer in Centronics mode.

Prompts

On entering PRINTRONIX  at TCL, the following prompt is displayed:

ENTER FORM LENGTH IN INCHES ?

Enter the number of inches required for the length of the form.

IS THIS 6 OR 8 LINES PER INCH ?

Enter 6 or 8, as required.

VFU CHANNEL SKIPS (Y/N) ?

This allows you to equate IBM channel numbers with a particular line number. For example, if Channel Three is equated to Line Six, the printer moves to the sixth line when a Skip to Channel 3 command is sent to the printer. This feature is used only when receiving print format data from an IBM system via a communications link. Enter 'Y' if you want this feature and 'N' if you do not.

To leave the specified channel unchanged, press RETURN only.

Restrictions

The page length must be less than 132 lines.  Hence form-length times number-of-lines must be less than 132.

The maximum length of a form at six lines per inch is twenty two inches.

The maximum length of a form at eight lines per inch is sixteen inches.

If you enter a form length greater than these an error message is displayed and you must re-enter.

Comments

PRINTRONIX prompts you for the form length, number of lines per inch, and channel specifications. After you type your responses to the prompts, the utility transmits the necessary control to the printer.

Upon completion, the following message is displayed reminding you to set up the printer as appropriate:

NOW SET PRINTER TO 6 OR 8 LPI AND ADJUST FORMS IN PRINTER

The TCL prompt is redisplayed.

The data is sent to the printer as a normal print job and placed in the job queue. Therefore, any changes caused by the PRINTRONIX utility do not take effect until the other print jobs ahead of it are printed. Remember, you can change the priority of print jobs by using SP-JOBS Action Code 10 or the SP-PRIORITY command.
