Q Type Entries

Q-type entries must be used for the following:

To create a Q-type entry, at the Entry type  prompt, enter 3  for ‘Q type’. You will see the following prompts:

  1. Enter System Name [q] :

The system name must contain at least one character (it cannot be the single letter ‘q’) and must be no longer than 49 characters.

    • For connections to Reality databases and SovereignX environments, it can be the name of the corresponding Reality or SovereignX entry.
    • For replug connections, it can be the name of the appropriate Destination, Q-type, Heartbeat or Alternative Host entry on the intermediate system.
    • It can be a local alias for the destination environment.

Note: If the system name is a local alias, you must specify the name of a ROUTE-FILE entry in the Actual system to reference  field.

In the majority of cases, the system name must be unique. The one exception is a Q-type entry that references a local Reality database or SovereignX environment — in this case, the system name can be the name of the appropriate Reality or SovereignX entry.

  2. Enter Destination system name to reference [q] :

Enter the name of the ROUTE-FILE destination entry which defines the system that holds the Reality database, SovereignX environment or acts as an intermediary.

Note: If the entry references a local Reality database or SovereignX environment, enter the name of the local-loopback Destination entry.

  3. Enter actual system to reference or return for default [q] :

    • If the system name is the name of a ROUTE-FILE entry on the destination system, press RETURN to accept the default (the name of this ROUTE-FILE entry).
    • If the system name is a local alias, enter the name of the appropriate ROUTE-FILE entry:

      • For connections to Reality databases and SovereignX environments, enter the name of the corresponding Reality or SovereignX entry
      • for replug connections, enter the name of the appropriate Destination, Q-type, Heartbeat or Alternative Host entry on the intermediate system.
  4. Comment:

The comment line may be up to 78 characters of alphanumeric text describing the ROUTE-FILE entry.

  5. Finally, the complete entry is displayed, as in the example below.

    System name : DBASE
    Entry type : Q type
    Referenced D system: SYS1
    Referenced system : HB
    Comment : Heartbeat Database
    commit entry [y,(n),q] :
    • Enter y  to confirm the entry.
    • Enter n  or press RETURN to leave the ROUTE-FILE unchanged.
