Starting Transaction Handling

This procedure starts up Transaction Handling on a database and should not need to be repeated while the database is operating normally. It will only be necessary to repeat this procedure if for some reason it has been necessary to stop Transaction Handling, for example, to recover the database. Proceed as follows:

Note: Ensure all users are logged off the database before carrying out this procedure.

  1. Select option 2 on the Configuration and Setup menu. A message is displayed describing the purpose of the procedure and prompting you to confirm that you wish to continue.

When you enter y  at the confirmation prompt, you are asked to confirm your selection and ensure that all users are logged off the database.

  2. If you are sure that all users are logged off, enter y  to start Transaction Handling.

If you try to start Transaction Handling while users are still logged on, the following message will be displayed:

[CTL2205] This command may only be used when no other users are logged on.
There are in fact n other users logged on. Use LISTU to see logged on users.
Do you want to log off all users from the database
    and try again (y/n/q) ? :

Entering y  will enforce a logoff of all users from the database, then repeat step 2. Alternatively, you can enter q  to return to the host prompt and then send a message to all database users requesting them to log off before repeating this procedure.
