I - Input Mode

Inserts characters at the current cursor position.

Command

I

Action

Pressing I while in Edit Mode allows you to enter Input Mode.

Any keys typed while in Input Mode are interpreted as literal characters and inserted into the text at the current character position.

All Edit Mode and Cursor Control commands are non-operational when you are in Input Mode.

Blank Line Insertion

Unlike the Line Editor, the Screen Editor allows the insertion of blank lines. Pressing RETURN while in Input Mode causes the insertion of an attribute mark and the beginning of a new line.

This is especially useful in creating dictionary definition items that require several blank attributes.

Display

While in Input Mode, control characters are displayed as a period (.) and system delimiters are displayed in the same way as they are with the Line Editor.

Exiting from Input Mode

Press ESC to exit from Input Mode and return to Edit Mode.
