Shadow Database Synonym Entries
Shadow Database synonym entries are set up in the Windows Registry when the Shadow Database configuration is first defined using tlmenu, as described in Defining/Redefining a Shadow Database.
The purpose of using Shadow database synonym entries is to enable tlmenu to reference the live and Shadow databases without the administrator needing to keep track of which is the live and which is the Shadow. Each time the Shadow pair is swapped, the synonym entry is updated.
For example, the following entries are created in the Windows Registry for the Shadow system name crime.
/Dbases crime/ Link=Dbase0 Enabled=1 Shadows=Dbase0, Dbase1 Dbase0/ Path = D:\real0\Dbase0 etc. Dbase1/ Path = D:\real0\Dbase1
where,
crime is the name of the Shadow pair that you specify in the procedure Configuring Shadow Pair.
Dbase0 is the live database (Link = Dbase0
).
Dbase1 is the Shadow Database.
Note
Each Shadow Database pair must have a different name and must share the same clean log sub-directory, the last part of which is the same as the Shadow-pair name; for example, E:\clean log\crime.
