Starting Shadow Database on Windows

At system startup, the realserv service disables all Shadow databases to prevent users logging on.

For each Shadow database pair, it then checks if the live database was shutdown cleanly. If it was, the database is re-enabled, allowing users to log on, and an information event is written to the application event log. If it was not, the database remains disabled and an error is written to the application event log.

To view the application event log, run the Event Viewer from the Windows Control Panel?s Administrative Tools group (when in Category view on Windows, Server 2003 or XP, the Administrative Tools group is under Performance and Maintenance). Then, from the Log menu, select the Application option. Any users attempting to log to a disabled database will get one of the following messages:

sm> Database 'pairname' is disabled
Unable to make connection

or

pairname: <2021> Invalid database name

If one of the above messages is displayed, contact your System Administrator who will need to enable the Shadow database and run tlmenu Failure and Recovery options 1, 2 and 3 on the Shadow database.
