Web Servers
A Web Server is a program that makes web pages available to web browsers. It exposes the contents of one or more directories on a host system, which then become accessible by means of a web address (URL). A browser communicates with a web server using HTTP (HyperText Transfer Protocol).
The following are some commonly used web servers. The list is not exhaustive.
-
Microsoft Internet Information Services (Windows).
-
Netscape Enterprise Server.
-
Apache HTTP Server.
Reality includes a "mini" web server that listens on port 3080 and exposes the directories and files in /usr/realman/html (UNIX) or drive:\realman\html (Windows). You can access your web pages with a URL similar to the following:
http://systemname:3080/webpage.htm
