UNIX-Connect
User Guide
UNIX-Connect is the generic name for a family of products, which enable communication between UNIX systems supported by NEC Software Solutions, and the Reality, RealityX and SovereignX environments.
The following facilities are provided:
-
Remote logon from a UNIX environment to a Reality, RealityX or SovereignX environment or another UNIX environment;
-
Remote logon from a Reality, RealityX or SovereignX environment to a UNIX environment;
-
Remote printing via a Reality or RealityX environment of print jobs prepared in a UNIX environment;
-
Simple file transfer, that allows files to be transferred between two UNIX systems, and between the UNIX and Reality or RealityX environments. Support for Simple file transfer is platform dependent; refer to the Release Information for details.
-
Remote UNIX shell (rush), used to execute commands on a remote UNIX system;
-
Program to program communication between a DataBasic program running in a Reality or RealityX environment and a C program running in a UNIX environment;
-
Interactive file access, that allows C programs in a UNIX environment to access Reality or RealityX files.
Overview
This section is intended for users wishing to use UNIX-Connect to:
- Perform remote logon;
- Send print jobs prepared in a UNIX environment to a Reality or RealityX form-queue;
- Transfer files between the local UNIX environment and a remote Reality/RealityX environment or between the local UNIX environment and a remote UNIX environment;
- Perform commands on a remote UNIX system.
Throughout the remainder of this section the term "Reality" is used to refer to both Reality and RealityX, and the term "UNIX system" is used to refer to any UNIX system supported by NEC.
Note
-
The program to program and interactive file access facilities are documented separately in the Reality C API Reference Manual.
-
Where more than one physical system is involved they must be connected via an IEEE 802.3 Local Area Network (LAN) or via an X.25 Wide Area Network (WAN).
-
The functionality described assumes the use of NEC terminals with Prism support.
