SSM Option 1 - Define Network Profiles

This option allows you to maintain network profiles for PLIds and partial PLIds. Network profiles are kept in the NETWORK system file under the SYSMAN account.

On selecting Option 1 on the SSM screen, the following screen is displayed.

There are common features of profiles screens that you can use to create, edit and delete profiles.

The following is an example of the screen displayed for the new PLId entry SLAN-56A9D3EE6B27-0426. The parameters shown are the default settings derived from the DEFAULT item in the NETWORK file.

NETWORK file maintenance options

0 Location Description

Specifies the physical location of a network connection.

Prompt:

Description of the physical location:

Enter an alphanumeric string of up to 50 characters. A backslash (\) nulls the field.

1 CCI

Identifies a particular location or group of locations.

Prompt:

Consistent Circuit Identifier

Enter a number in the range 0 to 32767. A -1 specifies that no CCI is assigned.

2 Logon Timeout

Specifies the number of seconds the system waits at the logon prompt before disconnecting.

Enter a number in the range 0 to 5400 seconds (90 minutes). A value of 0 (zero) indicates no timeout (circuit is not disconnected). See also Note 2.

3 Logon Retries

Specifies the number of unsuccessful logon attempts before a user is returned to the host operating system. Applies to interactive connections only.

Prompt:

Number of failed logon attempts before being locked out :

Enter a number in the range 0 to 32000. A value of 0 (zero) specifies infinite retries. See also Note 2.

4 Log Failed Attempts

Specifies whether to log failed logon attempts for security purposes. If enabled, each failed logon attempt is logged in the file SECURITY.EVENTS in the SYSMAN account.

5 Hushed Logon

Suppresses logon messages (banner and prompts) at logon and logoff.

6 Immediate Disconnect

Specifies that the circuit is to be disconnected immediately after log off.

7 Passworded User Logon

Restricts access to accounts with passwords.

8 Terminal Type

Specifies the terminal type.

9 Inactivity Timeout

Specifies the number of seconds of inactivity a user is allowed, before being forcibly logged off or disconnected. Inactivity is defined as a port waiting for input.

Enter a number in the range 0 to 5400 seconds (90 minutes). A value 0 (zero), the default, gives no inactivity timeout.

10 Receipt of Messages

Suppresses messages at the current cursor position.

Notes:

To display a help message, enter ? at the information prompt. To leave a field unchanged press RETURN. To null a field enter a backslash (\).
Setting Logon Timeout to 0 with Immediate Disconnect set to N causes the circuit to be maintained indefinitely. These two options are only effective when logon is achieved via the database logon prompt (initially set to Logon please:). If this prompt is not displayed at logon, it is also not displayed on logging off and disconnection from the database is immediate.
