Networking Problems

If you experience networking problems it is worth checking each of the points in the following list:

• Check any cables carefully. Always ensure that cables are firmly attached and cannot easily be displaced.
• Ensure that no-one has inadvertently altered any configuration parameters or any cabling.
• Ensure that the Ethernet addresses, or any other aspect of network configuration, have not been altered recently; for example, has a new piece of equipment been added to the network?
• Report any network problems you have to your network supervisor who can check that no-one has configured a piece of equipment in such a way that it clashes with the system, for example, an internet network address or NSAP.
• It is possible to re-initialize the Ethernet services without re-booting a system. Contact you local support representative who may advise you to do this as it can aid problem diagnosis.
• If users cannot connect to Reality databases on a Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 SP1 system, check that incoming connections through the Windows firewall have been enabled.

If network problems persist, consult your local support representative.

Problems following Solaris Upgrade

On Solaris systems, upgrading to version 8 can change the location of the TCP device nodes and thus cause UNIX-Connect to stop working.

To resolve this problem, uninstall UNIX-Connect, answering Y  when asked if you want to remove the device nodes. Then reinstall UNIX-Connect.
