Detail Line Processing

Each line of ordinary output is a detail line. Detail lines do not include special lines such as heading, footing, total, or subtotal lines. Output on detail lines is printed after applying both attribute 8 and attribute 7 codes.

Processing

The following illustrates the general application of conversion codes to attribute values:

  1. Data in stored format
  2. Attribute 8 (pre-processor) codes produce
  3. Data in intermediate format
  4. Attribute 7 (input/output processor) codes produce
  5. Data in output format

Print Limiter

If the output specification includes a print limiter, the processor compares the intermediate format against the limiter. If the value does not match the limiter, no further processing is done and nothing is displayed for that attribute; otherwise, the processor performs any output processing and outputs the result.

Controlling and Dependent Attributes

If your sentence references controlling (D1) and dependent (D2) attributes in an output specification clause, the processor does not output the attributes in the order specified in the sentence. It outputs the controlling attribute first and follows it with the dependent attributes in the sequence specified by the D1 code in the controlling attribute's definition item.
