O - Overtype

Allow you to type new characters over characters already present on a line.

Command

O

Action

The Overtype command allows you to change characters faster than adding new characters in Input Mode and then deleting the old characters.

When you enter characters in Overtype Mode, you can backspace to correct characters. backspace, in this case, acts only as a cursor control. It is a non destructive backspace.

Exit

The Overtype command is exited when you reach the end of a line or when you press LINEFEED, RETURN or ESC.

Pressing RETURN does not cause an End of Line function (Attribute Mark) when used in the Overtype command.

Display

While in Overtype Mode, the Status/Command Line displays:

Overtype Mode (Esc to exit) file-name item-id
