Network Printing allows users to send print jobs from a Reality database to printers on a network.
There are several ways in which your printer might be connected to the network. For example:
Note: Port 9100 is the raw data port.
To set up a network printer, do the following:
If the printer is connected to a terminal server, configure the terminal server port. On an MPTS terminal server use the following settings:
Type
)
to INCOMING
.Port
accessible by Northgate
) to NO
.Port Accessible by TCP/IP
) to
YES
. You
will be prompted to enter an IP address and port number (normally 1202).Port
accessible by ISO pipe
) to NO
.Other terminal servers will be similar – refer to the manufacturer’s documentation for details.
On the host, set up a destination entry for the remote printer using TCP/IP in character mode (UNIX) or the Telnet protocol (Windows). Set the remote host address to the IP address of the printer or terminal server and the port number to that used by the printer (normally 9100 or, on a terminal server, 1202 ).
On the database, create an item in the Reality NETDEVS file as follows:
item-id 001 printerName 002 SHR 003 NETDSP
where item-id can be any suitable name and printerName is the name of the ROUTE-FILE entry created in step 2.
Use DSM to create a Despooler definition:
PTR
.S
(shared) to allow other
network users to use the printer.Use FQM to create or edit the formqueue you require:
Use START-DESPOOLER to start the Despooler.
Note: When starting a network Despooler, you must have started Reality using the system name of the Reality entry in the ROUTE-FILE which identifies the database (that is, do not use the absolute pathname with the reality command).
