BUILD.DESPOOLERS - Creating Port and Tape Despooler Records

Creates despoolers, formqueues and NETDEVS entries for specified ports, and despoolers for tape units TAPE1 to TAPE16.

Syntax

BUILD.DESPOOLERS

Restrictions

SYSMAN only.

Operation

A formqueue (if requested), despooler and NETDEVS entry are created for each specified port, and despoolers only (if requested) for tape devices 1 to 16. For example, if you choose create formqueues, ports 400 to 410, and all tapes, the following will be created:

• Formqueues PTR400 to PTR410
• Despoolers PTR400 to PTR410 and TAPE1 to TAPE16.
• NETDEVS entries PTR400 to PTR410.

Process

On entering BUILD.DESPOOLERS, you will see the following prompts:

1. Do you want to create Despooler control records for ANY ports (Y/N)

   • Enter Y  to create despoolers for a range of Reality ports.
   • If you enter N, you will not create despoolers or formqueues for any ports. Go to step 5.

2. If you entered Y, you are prompted to create the Form Queues for the ports you will specify:

   Do you want to create form queues for these ports (Y/N)

   • If you enter Y, you will create both despoolers and formqueues for the ports you specify.
   • If you enter N, you will create only despoolers.

3. You are now prompted for the required port numbers:

   Enter start of range port number or (cr) to end

   • Enter the number of the first port in the required range. Valid port numbers are specified in the DEVICES file - see PLId to Port Mapping.
   • Press RETURN to finish specifying ports. Go to step 5.

4. If you entered a port number in the previous step, you are prompted for the last port number in the required range:

   Enter end of range port number or (cr) if single port

   • If the required range contains only a single port, press RETURN.
   • If the required range contains more than one port, enter the number of the last port in the range.

   The despoolers and formqueues for the range you have specified are then created. Return to step 3 to specify another range.

5. You are then asked if you want to create despoolers for tape units 1 to 16:

   Do you want to create Despooler control records for all tapes (Y/N)

   Enter Y  or N  as required.

   The despoolers for the tape units you have specified are then created and you are returned to TCL.

Comments

Windows systems do not have physical ports to which Reality ports can be mapped, so the despoolers created by BUILD.DESPOOLERS can only be used for despooling by PORT-DESPOOL.
