In a FailSafe configuration, tlmenu can be used to perform remote operations on the secondary database from the primary. The database owner must have 'trusted' access to the secondary database.
On Windows, trusted access is automatic when running tlmenu on the primary database.
On UNIX, trusted access requires .rhosts file entries on each machine to be set up via Configuration and Setup menu option 1.
On a UNIX system, when tlmenu is started up in a FailSafe configuration with remote commands not yet enabled (for example, when tlmenu is being used for the first time), you are asked if you wish to enable remote commands before proceeding:
Remote commands have not been enabled. Do you want to enable remote commands now (y/n/q) ? :
Enter y
to enable remote commands,
n
to continue, or q
to exit to the UNIX shell.
Caution
If n
is selected, then some
options in tlmenu for FailSafe will fail.
If y
is selected, then successful completion of the
enabling of remote commands is indicated by the message:
Remote commands enabled on this system. Now check that remote commands have been enabled on the other system. Hit return to continue:
This is followed by normal execution of tlmenu.
To check if remote commands are enabled on the other system in the FailSafe configuration, run tlmenu on that system. If remote commands are not enabled, you will be similarly prompted to enable them.
