The Line Down command moves the cursor down one line.
If the cursor is currently located on the last line, the screen is scrolled up.
When you press RETURN, ENTER, 2, or ↓ the cursor is positioned at the first character (column) of the next line. When you use LINEFEED the cursor is moved directly down and remains in the same column.
On some terminals, the down arrow (↓) key is collocated with the numeral 2 on the numeric keypad. On some terminals the ↓ key is on a separate cursor control keypad. In either case, pressing either the ↓ key or the numeral 2 produces the same result.
