This procedure must be selected on the new live database.
Having reconfigured the Shadow as the live database using Database Recovery option 1, this procedure enables you to reconfigure the failed database as the new Shadow.
Note: Ensure that tlmenu is configured to use the same backup method for the database you are rebuilding as was used when the backup was saved (see Backup Methods used by tlmenu).
y
to continue. If the failed database is already enabled, the procedure to re-build the new Shadow Database is started immediately
On a UNIX system, if the failed database is disabled, you are first asked if you want to run the file system check utility fsck to check and repair errors on the partition. If you ask to run fsck, you are then asked for the superuser (root) password – the partition is checked/repaired. Once the database is consistent, the partition is enabled and the procedure to re-build the new Shadow Database is started.
On a Windows system, the partition is enabled and the procedure to re-build the new Shadow Database is started.
The re-build procedure starts with the warning prompt:
WARNING: This will clear database 'databasePath' Are you sure you wish to clear it [Y/N] ?
Enter y
to remake the database. This clears the Shadow and rebuilds an empty database,
retaining the configuration parameters of the old database.
y
to continue with the
restore. The procedure continues, depending on which backup method is configured for tlmenu operation (described in Backup Methods used by tlmenu):
If FILE-SAVE is configured as the backup method, a list of tape units configured on the database is displayed, followed by the prompt:
Enter tape unit for Restore (tape_unit) :
Enter the number of the tape device to be used to restore the save. A message similar to the following is displayed:
Mount Save tape on tape unit tape_unit Are you ready to start the restore (y/n/q) ? :
Ensure that the most recent backup tape is mounted in the specified
tape device and that the device is on-line, then enter
y
. The tape is read and the tape label displayed for you
to make sure that it is the correct tape. You are then prompted to confirm that
the tape is correct.
If the correct tape is mounted, then enter y
to execute the procedure. The restore is then executed, ending with the
message:
Now select option 3 to restore the Clean Log(s) and then secure the shadow database
This returns you to the Database Recovery menu. Now use option 3 to restore clean logs onto the rebuilt Shadow.
